The Rules and the Feel of Running in Illegal Shoes
Much has been made over the last couple of weeks about so-called illegal running shoes — shoes that are prohibited by World Athletics, and are in turn banned from most triathlon races. First was the news that IRONMAN had updated its list of Prohibited Running Shoes for the first time in two years, along with some dissection of the ruleset being non-exhaustive. And then there was the men’s USATF 100 mile road champion, disqualified for wearing HOKA’s Skyward X.
We’re going to take a look under the hood of the regulations, the why behind those regulations, and what it’s then like to run in shoes that aren’t legal for racing purposes.
